For the first time ever I visited the Jardin des plantes. The Jardin des planted is located in the 5th arrondissement near Gare d’Austerlitz (Austerlitz train station). The Jardin des plantes includes several gardens, the Musée national d’histoire naturelle (Museum of Natural History), the Menagerie which is a small zoo.
It was a very nice afternoon in the the gardens, the glass houses and the “zoo”. I am very happy I finally made it there.
There were many kids there my families or on a school field trip, some painters and photographers.
I will definitely go back as there are parts of the Jardin des plantes I have not had time to see.
I took a few pix with the iPhone.
The Patagonian Mara is found only in Argentina. It is of the hare family but honestly, with its long limbs it does not really look like a hare.
Scattered in the Jardin des plantes are bees hotels (Hôtels à abeilles) in order to assist in bee reproduction.
Then I discovered another specie I did not know, the binturong or bearcat.

and some lesser flamingoes (we have them in Tanzania).
The ménageri is quite old and there are some very interesting buildings all around.
then, this funny little creature, the golden lion tamarin.

and a guinea pig in the pet farm.
and now some greater flamingoes.
then, the vivarium and the reptiles. The so green day gecko of Madagascar
a cut of a tortoise
swimming tortoises.
a baby bird in the nursery.
and a snow leopard.
